Keep your fingers crossed!
In a joint meeting this afternoon, the Santa Claus Town Council and the Parks Board agreed to submit an application for a grant for major trail improvements at Yellig Park, funded in part by donations from you.
If granted, the Recreational Trails Program through the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, could provide $150,000 in matching dollars to create three hard surface trails on what are now gravel paths in Yellig Park. Two of the trails would connect the CLV-Yellig Trail with the Yellig Park Trails on Ashburn Road. The third would finish the partially completed trail that loops the north side of Ashburn.
Funding for this grant comes from federal funds. A special Public Hearing will be held on June 10, 2019 at the Santa Claus Town Hall, 90 N. Holiday Blvd., Santa Claus, Indiana at 5:15pm.
Included in the grant request is paving on two parking lots and a welcome sign showing all the Town’s trails and points of interest.
The grant requires a 20% investment by the town and as a result of donations, TOSCI is able to pledge $30,000 toward that 20% if and when the grant is awarded. This commitment from Trails of Santa Claus, Inc. is in keeping with our mission to “expand the trails in and around Santa Claus and provide amenities along the trail.”
It should take several months to learn if the Town will receive the grant.
