It’s been a while since we’ve posted but that doesn’t mean that things are not happening!
First of all, the CLV-Yellig Trail is pretty much finished. The grass along the path is sprouting and with a few touch ups this spring some minor drainage issues will be addressed. And it’s great to see people out using the trails!
We have a new trail about to be constructed! But, let’s start at the beginning.
On January 18th, bids were announced for the Westside Connector. This project is a three lane road with an associated biking and hiking path approximated 1/3 of a mile long that runs between IN-245 and IN-162 just west of Kringle Place.
The low bid was from Ragle Inc. out of Newburgh in the amount of $1.320,874.48. Unfortunately, this amount of this bid was over budget by more than $200,000, leaving the town on the hook for $663,000 to complete the project.
Several meetings by the town with representatives of INDOT finally resulted in putting this project back in line with original estimates and the project is now on track to begin later this spring with the cost to the town being around the original estimate of $264,000.
The current plan is to ultimately have this new trail/roadway connect with the Lincoln Discovery Trail which will eventually connect to not only the Lincoln State Parks and Heritage Hills, but to Kaspar Drive and the west side of Christmas Lake Village.
The value of the Westside Connector, in addition to extending the trail network in town is in the potential for retail development along this new road.
We have a long way to go…but we are making progress! We are adding to the quality of life in Santa Claus.
Your donation is still needed and appreciated.
